Irish Amateur Open
Congratulations to Gavin Moynihan (The Island Golf Club) who captured his first ever individual Irish title on Sunday as the schoolboy won the Irish Amateur Open title at a windy Royal Dublin.
Just 17 years old, the fifth year student from Malahide Community School controlled his golf in the 45kph gusts at the Dollymount links to win by one from Robin Kind (Netherlands) and in doing so, becomes the youngest ever Irishman to win the title.
It's been a wonderful few months for Moynihan, who finished third at the Junior Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in the Autumn, while just last month he won the coveted Peter McEvoy Trophy at Copt Heath near Birmingham, a title that Lee Westwood and Justin Rose have both won.
Brian Casey (Headford) was third with Mike Miller (USA) and Daan Huizing (Netherlands) sharing fourth place.
Royal Dublin has recently played host to many illustrious visitors among whom are included.

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton made a recent return visit to Royal Dublin and played in a fourball with 3 times Major champion Padraig Harrington, democratic party’s Terry Mc Auliffe and Royal Dublin member David Evans aka U2’s The Edge. President Clinton renewed acquaintance with Anthony Berney our starter, who caddied for him on both his visits to the Club.
Royal Dublin's link to the Open
The Royal Dublin Golf Club has once again been chosen to host a qualifying round for the Open Championships which will take place in Royal Lytham & St. Annes from 15th-22nd July 2012. The pre qualifying round will take place on Mondy 25th June 2012. Last year, Royal Dublin Assistant Pro, Paddy Devine was one of four who made it to the next stage firing a one under par 71 in a testing wind. Paddy is looking forward to teeing up again in June.

Royal Dublin Captain, Seán Kelly has led the congratulations to Royal Portrush Golf Club having been chosen as venue for the Irish Open taking place on28 June - 01 July 2012 and the British Amateur Open Championships in 2014. Royal Dublin and Royal Portrush have especially close reciprocal links going as far back as 1967 when the Hammer Trophy (pictured), the brain child of the late Larry Gunning was competed for. This annual fixture has become a red letter day at both Clubs with the LOSER claiming the unique trophy currently on display at Royal Dublin

Billy Casper who was visiting Dublin on a cruise ship took time out to visit Royal Dublin recently and renewed acquaintance with Christy O’Connor Sr, his old rival against whom he played in no less than 7 Ryder Cups. Casper had 51 PGA Tour wins and made 8 Ryder Cup appearances from 1961 to 1975. He also scored the most Ryder Cup points by an American player.
Royal Dublin's Niall Kearney qualified in style for the final stages of The Asian Tour qualifying school at Springfield Royal County Club, Hua Hin, Thailand, held from 18th to 21st January with a four round total of 278, 10 under par. He finished third at the venue, three shots off the lead.
In the final he shot four rounds of level par to finish just three shots out of qualifying.
Winning score was 14 under with scores to three under qualifying for Asian tour card for 2012
