Dear Members,
Caoimhe O'Grady will tee off today at 12:30 in the final of the Irish Girls’ Amateur Close Championship against Katie Poots from Knock Golf Club.
Caoimhe, and her sister, Niamh both came through the two rounds of strokeplay to reach the match play stages. Caoimhe finished in six position after the 36 holes of qualifying and Niamh finished in 11th. The top 16 players went through to the main stages of the matchplay where Caoimhe and Niamh were drawn against each other in the last 16. It was a closely contested match with Caoimhe just edging through on the 20th hole. That was good enough for family boasting rights, for the time being, and a match in the quarter finals where Caoimhe won 3&2 versus Olivia Chandler from Belvoir Park.
In the semi-final this morning Caoimhe took on Olivia Costello from Roscommon. Olivia is Ireland's sixth highest ranked player in the Women's Amateur Golf Rankings. This was always going to be a tough match as Olivia has been in fine form and was the the star player on the GB&I team that won the Junior Vagliano Trophy last week, claiming 3.5 points out of 4. Caoimhe battled hard to beat Olivia on the 18th and to setup a final against Katie Potts. Katie was also part of the winning Junior Vagliano Trophy last week so another good test ahead for Caoimhe.
We wish Caoimhe the best of luck in today's final.
Golf Ireland will post the result at the end of the match and you can check the results here.
Kind Regards
Jeff Fallon
